CHALLENGE COIN FOR MILITARY CHILDREN
The children of US Armed Forces service members are frequently faced with challenges that other kids their age may never face. Moving on the average of every 2-3 years, these children are forced to adjust to new locations, homes, schools and friends. In addition, the military parent is often deployed and separated from the family. This comes at a time when the military child is trying to establish his own identity outside the family unit.
However, these challenges are off-set by the benefits that this nomadic life instills in the child. They are likely to mature more quickly than their peers by accepting responsibility, learning new cultures and often a new language. They learn quickly how to fit into a new situation.
These children have often been referred to as “Brats”. However, they have the attributes of the LION: Amazing, Resilient, Strong, Capable.
Although, the military child may never be able to call one place “Home,” they can proudly proclaim that “I am a citizen of the world!”
These children are an integral part of the military family and serve their nation alongside their military parent(s). For that reason, this coin was created to honor them for their service to our nation.
